description 46 Hestia Overview
46 Hestia is a main-belt asteroid with a P-type spectral classification and a dark, low-reflectance surface. English astronomer Norman Robert Pogson discovered it at the Radcliffe Observatory in Oxford on 16 August 1857. It was named for Hestia, the Greek goddess associated with the hearth and domestic life; the asteroid is about 124 km across and takes roughly 4.0 years to orbit the Sun.
