197 Arete is a main-belt asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter, discovered by Johann Palisa on 21 May 1879. It is an S-type asteroid, a rocky spectral class, and its orbit carries it from roughly 2.29 to 3.19 astronomical units from the Sun in about 4.5 years. The name comes from Arete, queen of the Phaeacians, wife of Alcinous, and mother of Nausicaa in Homer's Odyssey. [197 Arete](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/197_Arete)
