47 Aglaja is a numbered main-belt asteroid discovered by Robert Luther at Düsseldorf on 15 September 1857. It travels around the Sun between Mars and Jupiter and is classified as a dark C-type asteroid under the Tholen system, a classification associated with carbon-rich material. The name refers to Aglaea, one of the Charites, or Graces, in Greek mythology; photometric observations give it a rotation period of about 13.2 hours.
