A Clockwork Orange (1971)

A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 dystopian crime film directed by legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. It was adapted from the 1962 novel of the same name written by Anthony Burgess. The film is renowned for its highly stylized visuals, dark satire, and classical music score.

The main character, Alex DeLarge, is famously played by actor Malcolm McDowell. His charismatic yet menacing performance defined the film and remains his most iconic role. The story follows Alex and his gang of "droogs" through a futuristic, decaying British society.

The Ludovico technique is the controversial psychological conditioning treatment that the government uses to "cure" Alex of his violent tendencies in the film. It forces him to watch scenes of violence while being injected with nausea-inducing drugs. This process leaves him physically incapable of committing violent acts without falling severely ill.

The film sparked massive controversy upon its release due to its intense depictions of violence and sexual assault, often referred to as "ultra-violence." Kubrick himself eventually pulled the film from distribution in the United Kingdom after receiving death threats. Despite the controversy, it remains a highly influential masterpiece of cinema.
