Adam Dziewonski (1936–2016) was a Polish-American seismologist who made fundamental contributions to the understanding of Earth's internal structure. He co-developed the Preliminary Reference Earth Model (PREM) with Don Anderson, published in 1981, which became a standard reference model of Earth's interior. Dziewonski also pioneered the use of seismic tomography, a technique that uses seismic wave data to create three-dimensional images of the mantle. He spent much of his career at Harvard University.
