Agustín Farabundo Martí Rodríguez (1893–1932) was a Salvadoran Marxist revolutionary and labor organizer who became a central figure in the communist movement of El Salvador during the early 20th century. He participated in the failed 1932 peasant uprising in western El Salvador, which was violently suppressed by the military government of General Maximiliano Hernández Martínez. Martí was executed by firing squad following the uprising, and decades later his name was adopted by the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN).
