Albert Kahn was a German-born American industrial architect whose highly influential firm was based in Detroit, Michigan. His firm's innovative designs helped facilitate the massive manufacturing boom in the American automotive industry, particularly for Ford Motor Company.

Kahn's designs utilized extensive skylights and large windows to fill his reinforced concrete factories with natural light. This focus on well-lit workspaces dramatically improved visibility and safety for factory workers compared to the dark, cramped mills of the 19th century.
