Anne Tyng

Anne Tyng was a pioneering architect who worked closely with Louis Kahn, deeply influencing his approach to geometric spatial theories. Her mathematical insights were instrumental in the design of his famous 1959 Trenton Bathhouse pavilions.

Tyng was fascinated by complex geometric systems, particularly Platonic solids and Archimedean geometry, as fundamental frameworks for architectural space. She believed these geometries could create more organic, human-centric living environments.

One of her most recognized independent designs is the Four-Poster House, built in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in the early 1960s. The residence utilized a geometric post-and-beam system that directly reflected her spatial theories.

In 2011, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia held a major retrospective of her work titled "Anne Tyng: Inhabiting Geometry." This exhibition helped solidify her legacy as a brilliant theorist beyond just being a professional partner to Louis Kahn.
