description ALCO S6 Overview
The ALCO S-6, also designated DL-430, is a diesel-electric yard-switcher locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company. ALCO constructed 126 units from May 1955 through December 1960. The model uses an ALCO 251A or 251B six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 900 horsepower, a B-B wheel arrangement, and four powered axles. It was designed for low-speed switching work in railroad yards and industrial service.
