Alexander Haig was a United States Army general and diplomat who served as White House chief of staff under Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, Supreme Allied Commander Europe from 1974 to 1979, and Secretary of State under Ronald Reagan from January 1981 to July 1982. As secretary, he dealt with the Soviet Union, the Falklands War, the Middle East, and the aftermath of Reagan's attempted assassination.
