description Algo VPN Overview

Algo VPN utilizes a decentralized network and blockchain technology to route internet traffic, aiming for enhanced privacy and censorship resistance compared to traditional VPNs.

help Algo VPN FAQ

Is Algo VPN a blockchain or decentralized VPN?

No. Algo VPN is the Trail of Bits open-source project that uses Ansible scripts to set up a personal WireGuard and IPsec VPN server.

Which VPN protocols does Algo support?

Algo supports WireGuard and IKEv2/IPsec with strong crypto defaults. Its own documentation says it does not install OpenVPN, Tor, L2TP, or IKEv1.

Where can Algo VPN be deployed?

Algo can deploy to cloud providers such as DigitalOcean, Amazon EC2, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure, Hetzner Cloud, and Linode. It can also be installed on your own Ubuntu server if you know how to manage it.

Does Algo VPN make you anonymous online?

No. The Algo README explicitly says it does not claim to provide anonymity or censorship avoidance, so it is closer to a private personal VPN than a Tor replacement.
