Aliamanu Crater

description Aliamanu Crater Overview

Aliamanu Crater is a volcanic crater on Oahu, Hawaii, associated with the Pleistocene Honolulu Volcanics. The U.S. Army used the crater area for fortified positions and ammunition storage; tunnels and bunkers were constructed in the 1930s and remained in munitions use through 1975. In the 1970s, the installation was developed as Aliamanu Military Reservation, a U.S.

military housing community that also contained ammunition bunkers and tunnels along the crater rim. [U.S. Army assessment](https://aec.army.mil/Portals/115/PFAS/AMR_PFAS_PASI.pdf)
