Aliens Versus Predator

The 1999 classic Aliens Versus Predator was developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Fox Interactive. Rebellion was uniquely suited for the project, having previously developed the highly acclaimed Alien vs Predator game for the Atari Jaguar in 1994. Their engine perfectly captured the terrifying atmosphere of the franchise.

The game features three distinct single-player campaigns allowing you to play as a Colonial Marine, an Alien, and a Predator. Each species has unique mechanics, such as the Alien's ability to climb walls and the Predator's active camouflage. Playing as the Marine is widely considered one of the most terrifying horror experiences in gaming.

The game was originally released for PC on CD-ROM and famously required manual saves only at specific checkpoints, making it notoriously difficult. However, it was later updated and re-released on Steam as Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000. This version includes modern Windows compatibility and the ability to save anywhere.

While the 1999 original was developed by Rebellion, the 2001 follow-up, Aliens Versus Predator 2, was developed by Monolith Productions. The sequel placed a much heavier emphasis on narrative and storytelling, featuring interconnected campaigns for the three species. The original game, conversely, focused purely on intense, arcade-style survival horror.
