Allodesmus naorai

description Allodesmus naorai Overview

Allodesmus naorai is an extinct species of desmatophocid pinniped known from Miocene fossils discovered in Japan. Desmatophocids were an early group of seal-like marine mammals that lived before the modern diversity of true seals was established. Fossils attributed to A. naorai provide evidence about the history and geographic distribution of these extinct pinnipeds in the western Pacific.

The species is therefore relevant mainly to paleontology and the study of seal evolution.
