Alpine Kentucky Bluegrass

It is a cool-season Kentucky bluegrass cultivar of Poa pratensis. The word Alpine in the product name does not mean it is the separate species Poa alpina.

It is recognized for good shade tolerance compared with many Kentucky bluegrass options. It still needs some light, so dense permanent shade may require a different grass or a mixed seed blend.

The cultivar has a fine leaf texture that gives lawns a neat, soft appearance. Kentucky bluegrass also spreads through underground rhizomes, which can help turf recover from ordinary wear.

Kentucky bluegrass generally establishes more slowly than fast-germinating lawn grasses. Extension guidance commonly gives about 10 to 21 days for germination, depending on moisture, temperature, and seedbed conditions.
