description American dagger moth Overview

The American dagger moth, Acronicta americana, is a nocturnal moth in the family Noctuidae and occurs in eastern and central North America. Thaddeus William Harris described the species in 1841. The adult has pale gray forewings with darker streaks, while the caterpillar is covered with long pale hairs and feeds on the leaves of broadleaf trees, including maple, oak, birch, and beech.
