Ananteris balzani is a South American scorpion in the family Buthidae, a diverse family of venomous scorpions. Borelli described the species in 1899. It is known for tail autotomy, a defensive behavior in which the scorpion can voluntarily shed its metasoma, the segmented posterior part commonly called the tail. This unusual adaptation is a central feature in descriptions of the species.
