Antoni Wit

Antoni Wit served as artistic director of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) in Katowice before becoming music director of the Warsaw Philharmonic. Under his leadership, the Warsaw Philharmonic maintained its reputation as one of Poland's premier symphonic institutions. He is widely recognized for his extensive recorded catalog of Polish orchestral repertoire.

Wit is especially acclaimed for his recordings of Polish composers such as Witold Lutosławski, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Henryk Wieniawski. Many of these were recorded with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice for labels like Naxos. His Penderecki cycle in particular has been frequently cited by critics.

Antoni Wit was born in Kraków, Poland in 1944. He studied conducting and composition in Warsaw and later continued his training in Paris. His career unfolded during Poland's communist era and flourished internationally after the political changes of 1989.

A significant portion of Wit's recorded work has appeared on the Naxos label, where he conducted numerous volumes of Polish orchestral music. His Naxos discography includes works by Lutosławski, Panufnik, and Penderecki, among others. These recordings helped bring Polish repertoire to a broad international audience.
