Apple ermine moth

description Apple ermine moth Overview

Apple ermine moth (Yponomeuta malinellus) is a moth in the family Yponomeutidae, described by Zeller in 1838. Its larvae first mine leaves of apple trees and then feed gregariously inside extensive silk webs on leaves and branches; the white cocoons are arranged beneath a leaf or twig. Adults have white forewings marked with black dots, but identification is often more reliable from the larval food plant and immature stages than from the adult alone.
