description Turnip moth Overview
Turnip moth is the common name for Agrotis segetum, a moth in the family Noctuidae. It occurs across much of Europe and the wider Palearctic, and its caterpillars live in the soil or at ground level, feeding on roots, seedlings, and other cultivated plants. The larvae are called cutworms because they can sever young plants near the surface, making the species a pest of root vegetables and field crops. Adults show multiple color forms and usually have pale hindwings.
