The eastern tent caterpillar moth (Malacosoma americanum) is a North American moth in the family Lasiocampidae. Its larvae hatch in spring and live communally in conspicuous silk tents built in the forks of branches, especially on cherry and other deciduous trees; they leave the shelter to feed on foliage and may cause noticeable defoliation during outbreaks. The adult is the winged stage of this tent-building species.
