Arawn

description Arawn Overview

Arawn is a prominent figure in Welsh mythology, specifically in the First Branch of the Mabinogi (Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed), where he is depicted as the king of Annwn, the Welsh otherworld. In the tale, Arawn trades places with Pwyll, the prince of Dyfed, for a year and a day, with each assuming the other's appearance. During this time, Pwyll defeats Arawn's enemy Hafgan, while Arawn rules Dyfed so effectively that no one notices the substitution. Arawn is closely associated with hunting and appears with his pack of white hounds with red ears, known as the Cŵn Annwn.
