Hypnos

description Hypnos Overview

Hypnos is the Greek god and personification of sleep, son of Nyx (Night) and twin brother of Thanatos (Death). In Greek mythology, he dwelt in the underworld in a dark cave where the sun never shone and no sound disturbed the silence. Hypnos was typically depicted as a winged youth or as a bearded man with wings on his shoulders, carrying a horn containing sleep-inducing substances or a branch dripping from the river Lethe. His most famous appearance in literature is in Homer's Iliad, where he puts Zeus to sleep at Hera's request.
