description Årdalsfjorden Overview
Årdalsfjorden is a roughly 16-kilometre arm of the Sognefjorden in Vestland county, western Norway. It is a glacial fjord bordered by steep mountain terrain and leads inland toward the municipality of Årdal, including the industrial settlement of Årdalstangen at its head. The fjord is closely linked with Norway's aluminium industry because the Årdal aluminium works was established there in 1948, giving the landscape both a natural and industrial character.
