Ardbeg Traigh Bhan

Ardbeg Traigh Bhan is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks, which contributes layers of sweet dried fruit alongside the distillery's characteristic heavy peat smoke. The bourbon casks provide vanilla and citrus notes, while the sherry casks add richness and dark chocolate depth.

Ardbeg distillery sits on the southern coast of the Isle of Islay in Scotland, near the neighboring distilleries of Lagavulin and Laphroaig in what is sometimes called the 'Kildalton Cross' stretch. This coastal exposure contributes maritime notes of seaweed and salt that define the distillery's flavor profile.

Ardbeg typically uses malted barley peated to around 50 parts per million of phenols, placing it among the most heavily peated single malts in Scotland. Traigh Bhan carries this same robust smokiness, balanced by the sherry-cask maturation that tempers the medicinal peat with sweeter dried-fruit notes.

Ardbeg releases Traigh Bhan in small numbered batches, each with slight variations in the cask recipe and maturation length. This limited, iterative release strategy makes it one of the distillery's more sought-after premium expressions, typically priced above the core lineup like the Ten Year Old and Uigeadail.
