Laphroaig 15 Year Old

Laphroaig's intense peat smoke and medicinal iodine notes come from heavily peated malt dried over peat fires at the distillery on the Isle of Islay, combined with traditional copper pot still distillation. The exposed coastal location on Islay's southern shore also contributes seaweed-like and briny elements to the spirit.

The 15 Year Old offers a more rounded, mellow peat experience compared to the sharper and more aggressive 10 Year Old, with additional years of maturation softening the medicinal iodine punch. The 15 is also famously associated with King Charles III, who has reportedly favored this expression and whose Royal Warrant the distillery holds.

Laphroaig 15 has had varying availability across global markets and has been periodically reformulated over the years. In some regions it has been supplemented or partially replaced by the no-age-statement Laphroaig Lore expression, which draws on older stock to deliver a similarly mature flavor profile.

Laphroaig is one of the most heavily peated single malts on Islay, with malt typically peated to approximately 40–50 parts per million phenol. The additional years in oak maturation temper the perception of that peat smoke, making the 15 Year Old more approachable than younger expressions despite coming from similarly peated barley.
