Arouca Monastery is a Cistercian nunnery in the town of Arouca in northern Portugal, with origins dating to the 10th century and affiliation with the Cistercian Order from the 13th century. Queen Mafalda of Savoy, daughter of King Sancho I, entered the monastery as a nun and was later beatified. The current Baroque church and cloister largely date from the 17th and 18th centuries. The monastery remains an active religious community and pilgrimage site.
