description Bargerveen Overview
Bargerveen is a protected raised-bog landscape in the Dutch province of Drenthe, close to the border with Germany. It preserves part of the once extensive Bourtanger Moor, much of which was altered by peat extraction and drainage. Conservation work focuses on retaining water and restoring peat-forming vegetation, while the reserve supports specialized plants, insects, and birds. It forms part of the wider International Nature Park Bourtanger Moor-Bargerveen.
