Fochteloërveen is a protected peatland on the border of the Dutch provinces of Friesland and Drenthe. It preserves and restores raised bog habitat, a once widespread but now uncommon landscape formed by peat accumulating under waterlogged, nutrient-poor conditions. Managed as a nature reserve, it supports specialized wetland plants and animals and is visited by walkers, birdwatchers, and people interested in Dutch peatland conservation and ecological restoration.
