Bartolina Sisa (c. 1750–1782) was an Aymara leader who played a central role in the 1781 indigenous rebellion against Spanish colonial rule in Upper Peru, in what is now Bolivia. Together with her partner Túpac Katari (Julián Apaza), she organized and commanded indigenous forces that laid siege to the city of La Paz for several months. After their forces were ultimately defeated by Spanish reinforcements, Sisa was captured and executed by Spanish authorities in 1782.
