description Beirut Chess Overview
Beirut Chess is a chess variant attributed to Jim Winslow that adds a concealed explosive element to ordinary chess. At the start of play, each player secretly designates one of their pieces as a bomb, sometimes described in the variant's theme as a suicide bomber. If an opposing piece captures that marked piece, the capturing piece is also destroyed, creating uncertainty about captures and changing the value of apparently safe exchanges.
