Shakhmaty

description Shakhmaty Overview

Shakhmaty is the Russian plural form of shakhmaty, the Russian word used for chess. It refers to the same two-player board game in which each side moves sixteen pieces on an eight-by-eight board and seeks to checkmate the opposing king. Chess became deeply established in Russian and Soviet culture, which later produced many influential players and schools, but the word itself is not the name of a separate chess variant.
