Beppe Rinaldi

The Rinaldi estate produces Barolo from several prized crus in the Langhe, including vineyards in the communes of La Morra and Barolo itself. Notable sites historically associated with the estate include Brunate and Le Coste, from which Rinaldi has long crafted traditionally styled Barolo.

Rinaldi was a staunch defender of the classical Barolo approach, which includes long maceration periods, fermentation in large Slavonian oak casks rather than small French barriques, and extended aging before release. He was openly critical of the modernist movement in Piedmont that favored shorter maceration and new oak, seeing it as erasing the distinct character of Nebbiolo.

Beppe Rinaldi's daughters, Marta and Carlotta Rinaldi, have taken over management of the estate, continuing their father's traditional winemaking philosophy. Under their guidance, the domaine maintains its commitment to long aging in large oak casks and minimal intervention in the vineyards.

Traditional Barolo from producers like Rinaldi typically requires significant bottle aging, often a minimum of 10 to 15 years from the vintage, before the firm tannins of Nebbiolo fully integrate. The wines are renowned for their longevity and can continue developing complex tertiary aromas for several decades.
