description Berne Abbey Overview

Berne Abbey is a Premonstratensian monastery located in Heeswijk-Dinther in the Dutch province of North Brabant. Founded around 1134, it is one of the oldest continuously active Norbertine religious communities in the Low Countries. The abbey has endured periods of disruption, including the Protestant Reformation and subsequent conflicts, yet has maintained its religious community. The Premonstratensians, or Norbertines, follow the Rule of St.

Augustine and combine contemplative religious life with pastoral ministry.
