description Chaalis Abbey Overview
Chaalis Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery founded in 1137 near the town of Senlis in northern France. After its destruction and partial demolition, the estate was acquired in the early 20th century by Nélie Jacquemart-André, who restored the château and established a museum there. The site preserves medieval frescoes, notably in the chapel of Saint-Saturnin, and houses collections of paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts that are now open to the public.
