Bessarabian Steppe

description Bessarabian Steppe Overview

The Bessarabian Steppe is the steppe and agricultural landscape associated chiefly with southern Bessarabia, including the Budjak area between the lower Dniester, Danube, and Black Sea. The region lies within the historical territory of Bessarabia, which is divided today mainly between Moldova and Ukraine. Its open grassland environment, relatively dry continental climate, and fertile chernozem soils have supported cereal cultivation, vineyards, sunflower production, and livestock raising, while also making the area a long-standing corridor for settlement and movement.
