Bill is one of the two main string-puppet characters in The Flowerpot Men, a BBC preschool television programme associated with the Watch with Mother series. The programme first aired on 12 December 1952, with Bill and his companion Ben living in flowerpots at the end of a garden and being warned by Little Weed when the gardener approached. Their dialogue used the invented fantasy language Oddle Poddle, and the original voices were provided by Peter Hawkins.
