Billy Joel's 'Greatest Hits – Volume I & Volume II,' released in 1985, is his best-selling release and has been certified Diamond by the RIAA for over 10 million copies shipped. Among his studio albums, 'The Stranger' (1977) is widely regarded as his commercial and artistic peak, featuring hits like 'Movin' Out' and 'Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.'

Billy Joel's monthly residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City began in January 2014 and concluded in July 2024. He performed over 100 shows during the residency, setting the record for most performances by a single artist at the venue.

Billy Joel has won multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for '52nd Street' at the 1980 ceremony and both Record of the Year and Song of the Year for 'Just the Way You Are' at the 1979 ceremony. He also received the Grammy Legend Award in 1991.

'Piano Man,' released in 1973 as the title track of his second album, became Billy Joel's first major hit and remains his signature song. The single reached the Billboard Hot 100 and told the semi-autobiographical story of his time playing piano at a Los Angeles lounge.
