The blue skimmer, Orthetrum caledonicum, is a dragonfly in the family Libellulidae found in Australia and nearby parts of the southwest Pacific. Mature males commonly develop pale blue, powderlike pruinescence across much of the abdomen and thorax, while females and immature individuals are generally brownish or yellowish with darker markings. It occurs around ponds, lakes, streams, and other freshwater habitats where adults perch openly and hunt flying insects.
