description Blue-tailed Hummingbird Overview

The Blue-tailed Hummingbird is a Central American species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is often listed as Saucerottia cyanura, with Amazilia cyanura retained in older sources, and its range includes Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. The blue tail reflected in its common name helps distinguish it in field references. Like other hummingbirds, it feeds mainly on nectar and also takes small arthropods.
