description Boeing X-50A Dragonfly Overview
The Boeing X-50A Dragonfly was an unmanned demonstrator for the canard rotor/wing concept, jointly developed by Boeing and DARPA. The design used a two-blade rotor driven by jet exhaust at its tips for vertical takeoff and hover, then stopped and locked the rotor in flight so it could serve as a fixed wing for forward flight. Two prototypes were built and the type first flew in 2003; both aircraft were destroyed in crashes during testing, and DARPA terminated the program in 2006.
