description Brown house moth Overview
The brown house moth, Hofmannophila pseudospretella, is a small moth in the family Oecophoridae and was described by Stainton in 1849. Its larvae feed on a broad range of dry organic material, including cereals, seeds, dried plant matter, wool, fur, feathers, leather, and dead insects, which makes the species a household and stored-product pest. Adults are bronze-brown with darker wing flecks, while mature larvae are pale with brown head capsules.
