Bruno Migliorini

Bruno Migliorini was a prominent 20th-century Italian lexicographer and linguist who specialized in the historical development of the Italian language. He served as the President of the renowned Accademia della Crusca from 1949 until his death in 1963. His extensive work focused on documenting Italian etymology and creating normative dictionaries.

Migliorini is perhaps best known for co-authoring the Dizionario d'ortografia e di pronunzia (DOP), a highly respected Italian dictionary of orthography and pronunciation. He also authored Storia della lingua italiana (History of the Italian Language). His textbooks remain foundational texts for linguistics students in Italy today.

Migliorini served as the President of the Accademia della Crusca, the premier linguistic institution in Italy, starting in 1949. The Accademia is famously known for compiling the first official dictionary of the Italian language. Under his leadership, the academy heavily influenced the normative standards of modern Italian.
