description Buffalo Trace Bourbon Overview
Buffalo Trace Bourbon is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey with a flavor profile commonly associated with caramel, vanilla and oak. Its mash uses rye as the secondary flavoring grain, rather than wheat, placing it apart from wheated bourbons made by the same distillery. The result is an approachable style that can interest both newer bourbon drinkers and those familiar with the category. It can be considered for drinking neat, with water or in bourbon cocktails, depending on personal preference.
Sweetness and oak influence are useful reference points, although tasting impressions differ between drinkers. The bourbon carries the name of its producing distillery and represents a conventional straight-bourbon style. Availability and value vary by region, so neither widespread access nor a fixed affordability claim should define its description.
help Buffalo Trace Bourbon FAQ
Is Buffalo Trace Bourbon actually wheated?
No. Buffalo Trace Bourbon is generally understood as a low-rye Kentucky straight bourbon, while Weller and Pappy Van Winkle are the famous wheated lines from the same distillery family.
What proof is Buffalo Trace Bourbon?
Buffalo Trace Bourbon is bottled at 90 proof, or 45 percent ABV. That makes it easy to drink neat but still strong enough for an Old Fashioned.
Why is Buffalo Trace hard to find in some stores?
Availability varies because Buffalo Trace Distillery products are often allocated by market. In many U.S. stores it is a normal shelf bourbon, while in others it gets treated like a limited bottle.
What other bourbons come from Buffalo Trace Distillery?
The same Frankfort, Kentucky distillery is associated with Eagle Rare, Weller, Blanton's, and E.H. Taylor. Those bottles have different mash bills, ages, proofs, and allocation levels.
