help Bundt Cake FAQ

Is Bundt a type of cake or a type of pan?

Bundt primarily describes the ring-shaped pan rather than one specific recipe. Pound cake, chocolate cake and many other batters can all become Bundt cakes when baked in that pan.

Who created the modern Bundt pan?

David Dalquist of Nordic Ware developed the modern cast-aluminum Bundt pan in Minneapolis around 1950. The design was inspired by European ring molds used for cakes such as Gugelhupf.

Why does a Bundt pan have a tube in the center?

The central tube exposes more batter to the hot pan, helping a dense cake bake evenly. It also creates the distinctive ring shape and increases the amount of browned exterior.

How do you release a cake from an intricate Bundt pan?

Grease every ridge and crevice, then dust the surface with flour or use a baking spray containing flour. Let the cake rest briefly after baking, but turn it out before sugars cool and bond firmly to the mold.
