Caracol is an ancient Maya archaeological site in the Cayo District of Belize, in the Maya Mountains near the country's western border. It flourished during the Classic period, from about AD 250 to 950, and developed a large urban landscape with monumental buildings, causeways, agricultural terraces, and reservoirs.
