Carousel is a 1956 American musical film directed by Henry King and adapted from the stage musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones star as carnival barker Billy Bigelow and mill worker Julie Jordan in a story about romance, violence, responsibility, and attempted redemption in coastal Maine. Filmed in CinemaScope, it retains major songs from the stage score, including "If I Loved You," "June Is Bustin' Out All Over," and "You'll Never Walk Alone."
