Cassiopea andromeda

description Cassiopea andromeda Overview

Cassiopea andromeda is a species of upside-down jellyfish found in shallow tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Rather than swimming continuously in open water, it commonly rests with its bell against the seafloor and its branching oral arms directed upward. Its tissues contain photosynthetic dinoflagellate symbionts that provide part of its nutrition, an adaptation suited to sunlit lagoons, mangroves, and other sheltered coastal habitats.

insights Ranking position

Cassiopea andromeda ranks #39 of 208 in the Jellyfish ranking, behind Atlantic Sea Nettle (Chrysaora quinquecirrha), ahead of Giant Barrel Jellyfish (Rhizostoma luteum).
