Celithemis amanda

The common name for Celithemis amanda is Amanda's pennant. It belongs to the Libellulidae family, which are commonly known as skimmer dragonflies.

This dragonfly is predominantly found around ponds and marshes in the southeastern United States. They prefer these stagnant or slow-moving freshwater habitats for breeding and hunting small insects.

The species was originally described by the entomologist Hermann Hagen in 1861. He was a prominent German-American odonatologist who helped catalog thousands of insect species.
