help Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) FAQ

Who offers the CSSLP certification and who is it for?

The CSSLP is issued by (ISC)², the same organization behind the CISSP. It is aimed at developers, software architects, engineers, and project managers who are responsible for security across the software development lifecycle.

How many domains does the CSSLP exam cover?

Eight domains, spanning the full lifecycle: secure software concepts, requirements, design, implementation, testing, acceptance, deployment/operations/maintenance, and supply chain security. The breadth is what distinguishes it from single-phase security certifications.

What work experience do you need to earn the CSSLP?

(ISC)² requires five years of cumulative paid work in the software development lifecycle or related security domains. One year can be waived if you hold a four-year college degree in a related field.

How does the CSSLP differ from the CISSP?

The CISSP is a broad security leadership and management certification, while the CSSLP specializes in building security into software from design through disposal. The CSSLP exam is around 175 multiple-choice questions in about four hours, with no experience assessment like the CISSP's CAT format and endorsement process.
